I'm happy to provide more information if you wish and in the meantime I'll email you my blog address so you can read what we got up to :-) By the way despite living in Australia for nearly all my life I am originally from Amersfoort so from one dutchie to another tot ziens :-) Tehran, Yazd, Esfahan and Shiraz all have a great many things of interest to visit so you choice of cities is a good one - the tourist destinations are all well documented on the internet so I won't bother telling you what you probably already know about these cities suffice to say they are all worth visiting. Abyaneh, which can be visited from Esfahan is also worth a vist if not an overnight stay at the hotel there. where we ended our journey by flying back to Tehran and then on to Turkey. Then to Hamadan, Kashan, Abyaneh, Esfahan, Yazd and Shiraz. We visited Masouleh which is a beautiful mountain village - if you get a chance I'd recommend visiting it. From there we drove west as far as Bandar-e Anzali stopping at Ramsar along the way. We started in Tehran and drove north to the Caspian Sea at Chalous.

I believe the norm would be to hire a driver but I love my independence :-) Despite this we utilized a Shiraz based travel agency, irantravelingcentre to arrange for local guides in cities and also to pre-book our hotel accommodation and I can highly recommend their services. We chose to do something unusual (at least by Iranian standards I believe) and that was to drive ourselves around the country. Not only is it safe but the Iranian people are possibly the friendliest and most hospitable people I have encountered anywhere.
